Interactive videos with H5P – two-way communication
The aim of the STŠ Koper was to develop learning materials for practical training, adapted to the needs of our school’s educational programmes. There is a lot of material on the internet, especially on YouTube, but this material is mostly for theoretical subjects such as mathematics, English, history, languages, etc. Also, the materials on the internet do not contain interactive elements, nor do they include blended learning. These elements have been included in order to move away from traditional teaching methods and to make the practical training sessions more interesting, more personalised for students, and to give students and teachers a new approach to teaching.
An important part of education is that teachers are not just transmitters of information and students are not just passive receivers, but are active in their education. Interactive video guides go beyond the traditional image of a teacher giving information in front of a chair and a student trying to absorb and remember it. Modern technology allows the use of video in education to go beyond and enrich traditional learning. Videos up to 10 minutes long can be turned into interactive content using H5P plug-ins – the video stops several times and the learner has to answer questions to continue. In case of wrong answers, the correct answer can be displayed or the video can be paused at the point where the answer was given and the learner has to answer again. With the use of LMS systems (e.g. Moodle), both teacher and learner have quick feedback.
